Frequently asked questions
New to the sand
-
Not at all. SMBV Co. is all about being welcoming, not intimidating. Our coaches build your skills with patience and encouragement — so you’ll learn, laugh, and feel supported the whole way whether you’ve played before or not.
-
Each level has a handy description to guide you. If you’re on the fence, start one notch lower — it’s more fun to feel confident than overwhelmed. And don’t worry: our coaches are pros at spotting where you’ll thrive. Check out our levels here!
-
Just your energy, comfy clothes, water, and sunscreen. If it’s cooler out, sand socks are a great idea to keep your feet warm. We’ve got the balls, nets, and good vibes covered.
-
Aim to roll in about 15 minutes early. That gives you time to settle in, stretch, and chat with the coach. If you’re unsure about your level, our coaches can help guide you into the right fit.
General stuff
-
Our courts (A&B) are just north of Perry’s Café at 2600 Ocean Front Walk in Santa Monica. Accidentally end up at the Perry’s at 2400? No worries — just stroll a little south and you’ll find us.
-
Yep! There are all-day and short-term hourly lots nearby, plus meters on Barnard Way. If navigating cars isn’t your jam, biking is also a great option (and an even better warm-up).
-
Supportive, relaxed, and full of good vibes. Think new friends, sandy high-fives, music in the background, and a community that’s serious about helping you grow — but never too serious to intimidate.
-
If your doctor gives you the green light, we’ll adapt. Just chat with your coach before class so we can tailor things to your needs. Safety + progress = always the priority.
-
Classes are adult-only (19+). Kids and pets are welcome to hang on the sidelines — as long as they’re friendly and supervised!
Classes, schedules & policies
-
Yep! Our classes are for adults 19 and over. This also applies across our classes, leagues, and events.
-
We run morning and afternoon classes on weekdays and weekends. Afternoon times flex a bit with daylight, so always peek at the schedule before you grab your sunscreen.
-
We love playing in the sun, not battling the elements. If rain or high wind tries to crash the party, we’ll cancel class, give you a heads-up, and roll your credit back. For major holidays, we usually take a break (fireworks, turkey dinners, you get the idea). All closures will always be noted on our schedule page.
-
Life happens — we get it. Cancel or reschedule at least 12 hours ahead and you’ll keep your credit (or fee if you booked a drop-in). Cancel late or no-show and that session counts as used. Think of it as helping us keep the schedule flowing so everyone gets a chance to play.
-
Both! Drop in if you want to test the waters (or sand). Or, if you’re ready to get consistent, grab a 4-, 8-, or 12-class pack and save some $$ while you rack up the rallies. Check out our options on the Buy Classes page!
-
Class packs are your volleyball punch card — 4, 8, or 12 sessions to play more and save more. Each pack is tied to a specific level, and when your coach gives the green light to move up, we’ll update it on our end. Level 3 and 4 players can also drop into one level below for extra reps or a lighter day on the sand.
Private sessions & events
-
Not right now — but we’re cooking up ideas for smaller, more personalized sessions down the road. Think of it as extra court time with a coach and plenty of good vibes. Stay tuned!
-
Absolutely! From team-building volleyball sessions to group days on the sand, we’ll bring the nets, balls, and good vibes. Reach out to us and we’ll help create something awesome for your crew.
